Balloons are among the most impressive party supplies and decorations – easy to use, suitable for every celebration, and wonderfully visual. When choosing balloons, take a moment to consider the mood: do you need lightness or structure, delicate pastels or bold shapes and colors? Is it for a birthday, a baby shower, or perhaps a garden party?
What Kind of Balloons for Parties?
A balloon can be monochromatic, patterned, or text-adorned; foil balloons can also be crafted into specific shapes. How to Place and Inflate Balloons?
If the balloons have a pattern or text, careful placement is important. The inflation method also significantly affects this. It's always a good idea to check if a foil balloon has a specific shape or if a latex balloon has text or a pattern – does it matter which way these wondrous decorations are arranged?
And in this context, it would be good to consider whether the balloons are filled with helium or air?
Filling balloons with helium makes them float beautifully, vibrantly, and lightly in the air. It's an excellent choice if you want impressiveness and airiness, especially if your balloon should float "the right way up."
Helium-filled balloons can be anchored to the ground with a balloon weight and placed where desired, or allowed to float freely near the ceiling with beautiful strings or without them. A nice little tip is that they can also be arranged on a party table with a short string.
When filling balloons with helium, in addition to the weight, you should always consider what kind of string to use – any beautiful string, such as gift ribbon, can be used.
Air inflation, on the other hand, always works and is particularly suitable when balloons are hung, placed directly on a table, attached to a curtain with a safety pin, or taped to a wall or ceiling. Air inflation is easy to do regardless of the location, although with shaped and printed balloons, care must be taken to ensure that texts and shapes are oriented correctly when hung. Air-filled latex balloons can easily be made into cute small arrangements, for example, to be attached to a wall, using elastic bands and tape.
Some foil balloons are not meant to be filled with helium, and these packages always include a separate straw for air inflation. If there is no straw and you want to inflate the balloon with air, you can use a regular straw, like the one included with the party box.
All foil balloons have a self-sealing valve, meaning it closes automatically after inflation. The valve is quite long, so when inflating the balloon with air or deflating it, the straw should be carefully pushed relatively far in so that its end goes past the valve inside the balloon – this allows it to inflate/deflate. When filling with helium, it is sufficient for the helium nozzle to go slightly inside the valve.
Did you know you can deflate balloons?
Foil balloons can be deflated using a straw, carefully squeezing the air out. Latex balloons can be untied from the knot using, for example, a crochet hook, if the balloon has not been treated to prolong its flight time. Insert the tip of the crochet hook into the knot, push it through, stretch open the hole, and undo the knot. Latex balloons are surprisingly durable, so they often withstand being opened.
How long do helium-filled balloons float?
Standard latex balloon: flight time is 5-7 hours, with treatment agent up to 5-6 days.
Foil balloon: floats for several days, even weeks. Even when filled with air, they stay full for a very long time.
Latex balloons allow helium to escape quickly. The more porous the balloon material, the faster helium escapes. However, latex balloons can be treated with a balloon treatment agent before helium inflation, which allows them to stay airborne for up to 5-6 days.
